Centre Director

On leaving school Margaret trained as a nurse in the Mater Hospital in Belfast before becoming a Salesian Sister. She spent 13 happy years with the Salesians in Dublin, Limerick and Clare, teaching and working with young people in a variety of settings, including parish-based youth work, youth-clubs and summer schemes. Additionally, she trained both young people and adults in leadership skills for youth work.

Subsequently, Margaret returned to Belfast and to nursing in the A&E Department of The Ulster Hospital, Dundonald. It was during this time that the position of Director for the Pastoral Centre became available and, keen to return to working with young people, Margaret applied. She has led the team here since September 2002.

I am constantly amazed by the great sense of spirituality that young people have. I enjoy their energy, enthusiasm and willingness to approach things with an open mind. My experience of working with young people over many years has convinced me that where the Gospel values of welcome, acceptance and loving-kindness are central, then young people have room to flourish.
